Livestock and semen from dairy and beef cattle breeds perfectly suited for grassland

Philosophy

Initial position

  • Worldwide climate change influences the production of food- and agricultural commodities
  • Dairy and beef production based on concentrated feed competes human nutrition -> “feed no food
  • Use the available resources (grassland) in a sustainable way
  • The prevalent breed black-Holstein is an extreme dairy breed with a high need for concentrates
  • Low milk prices

Objective

  • Production suitable to habitat (with roughage feed)
  • Sustainable development of the Baltic cattle breeding
  • Use of robust breeds with a lower milk yield but the benefit of lower production costs
(lower veterinary costs, no concentrates, more calves per cow)
